Question on channels and archive

I understand that if I have a channel and use editions then as the new editions go live according to their schedule that prior edition will magically move to the archive tab.
However, I do not seem to find anything that tells me how to set chennels to be chronological and how to set up when they are moved to an archive. And, once in the archive (if that is possible) how to group them by something like year/month within the archive.
So, is this chronological type of channel with an archive grouped by year and month possible?

So, if I understand correctly, in story listing mode the stories are simply listed in reverse chronological order within the channel. The ones I promote to the front page will show up on the front page as well. How many appear on the front page is determined by an admin setting as I recall, and I assume that as I promote number 11 (assuming 10 allowed) then number 1 will be removed from the front page (unless it has the sticky setting) and only appear on the channel page.
Will the channel page simply grow to whatever size? Do they ever move from the channel page to the channel archive if using story mode for the channel. If they do, does the archive then simply grow to whatever size it ends up being?
As for having the archive of story mode channels having a setting to group by year month, I can post that to the wishlist forum.
Thanks

Yes.

Ah, there is possibility for misunderstanding here, because promote to front page is sometimes misleading. If you promote nodes to the front page, then they will show on the page .../node. Whether the page .../node is actually your frontpage depends on the setting Default front page at .../admin/settings/site-information. For a Drupal non-ProsePoint site, the Default front page is set to .../node, but this can be changed by the user.
If you change the Default front page at .../admin/settings/site-information to something other than .../node (or change it indirectly through ProsePoint's frontpage manager .../admin/content/frontpage), then nodes promoted to the front page won't actually show on the front page because the front page is no longer .../node.

A story listing will grow to unlimited size, but (if I remember correctly) it gets split into 20 items per page (this is a view parameter).
> Do they ever move from the channel page to the channel archive if using story mode for the channel.
Stories which are marked as 'archived' do not, but that's because the functionality isn't present. The archived state for Stories doesn't do much at the moment.
The channel archives tab for a channel only lists past channel editions. It doesn't show individual stories.
> If they do, does the archive then simply grow to whatever size it ends up being?
Yes, but split at 20 items per page (or thereabouts).

Hi,
> that prior edition will magically move to the archive tab.
Yes.
Visit .../admin/content/channels, and click on edit in the Operations column for a channel. Do you see a fieldset Channel settings? That lets you change the channel between scheduled editions mode and story listing mode.
> how to set up when they are moved to an archive.
Any editions in the past will automatically appear in the archive tab. I don't think there is a need to have a configurable set up?

Not presently, but it's a good idea for later down the track. Do you want to post this in the Wishlist forum? Or shall I move this thread over there?
