Beng, this is really cool, but I didn't see it mentioned anywhere.  If you are viewing a story and can also see the sub-channel block in which it is listed, the story which you are viewing is highlighted in the list.  Cool!

Actually, that's been in there from the very beginning. It's an inherited feature courtesy of Drupal.

Any generated link (ie. not edited by hand) is marked as 'active' if it points to the current page. Then, if the link is also in a menu, the css styling marks it differently ie. shading in the case of the default theme, or a different colour for other situations (perhaps).
