Just followed all the instructions to posting a story but it doesn't show up on front page. I get this message:

  • Headlines: this post can't be referenced.
  • Other Stories: this post can't be referenced.

I do see the stories in "channels" but can't get them on the front page.

Can you help?

Mary

Stories haven't been set to 'Published' or 'Public'?

Hi,

It may be possible that your stories haven't been set to 'Published' or 'Public' (terminology varies depending on your version of ProsePoint).

Can you please visit the Story Manager (.../admin/content/stories) on your site? If you have stories listed there as 'Draft' or 'Ready for review', they won't be available for adding into editions until you set them to 'Published' or 'Public'.

All have been "published."

All have been "published." How do I get them on to the front page?

Also, how do you change the typeface or font of the content? Can you cut and paste from someplace else or does it need to be written in the template?

Thanks so much. We're eager to use your software to start a new online daily in Boston.

You probably want to set your frontpage to a channel.

You probably want to set your frontpage to a channel. Visit .../admin/content/frontpage on your site and select a channel.

If your selected frontpage channel is in story listing mode, then any stories you publish to that channel will automatically appear (because the channel displays a chronological listing).

If your selected frontpage channel is in scheduled editions mode, you need to create an edition, add your stories to Headlines or Other stories, and then assign that edition to your channel.

The typeface or font (or anything else related to presentation) is done by the theme. To change them, you need to edit or change the theme. Unfortunately, we don't have much in the way of alternative themes at the moment :( ProsePoint is still relatively new.

You could try reading Making your own customisations to the default theme and see if that helps.

Or if you absolutely need a particular look and feel, contact us through the contact form and let's see you would like us to do a custom theme for you.

This is what the frontpage looks like:

Frontpage
Which channel do you want your front page to display?:
 Features
 Music
 The Arts
 News
 Poetry
 Science
 Sports
 Theater
 Politics
 Media
As you can see, news is selected and that is what I selected when I wrote the posts, then saved them, then set them to publish and then still didn't see them on the front page.

How do I tell if the selected frontpage channel is in story listing mode or scheduled editions mode?

Visit

Visit .../admin/content/channels on your site, find a channel of interest (ie. News), and click on edit. The subsequent page lets you configure several channel related settings.

I suspect your News channel is in scheduled editions mode (which is default on a fresh install). Hence your stories are not showing straight away. So you probably want to change the mode to story listing (which is the simpler mode) or create a News edition (which is the more complicated and involved method, but also gives more control over layout and story selection).

This is a brand new install.
This is a brand new install. Someone set it up for us and he's not really around anymore. We've yet to hire or find a technical person and I just can't figure all these features out. What is the quickest way to learn how to navigate around Prose Point? I'm not very technical so just fooling around isn't going to help. Any chance I could spend some time with someone on the phone? Or do you know someone who's using the site successfully who could help me?

Will changing the mode to story listing make it so that every time we post something and "publish" it, it will go to the front page and the other channels we select when writing the post?

Should I change all of the channel settings to story listing?

Also, is there a way to retrieve posts which are now in the channel stories queue and get them on to the front page?
