I've been at the install for almost 20 hours. Connected to database, but it stopped on "need clean URLs". I've read all that I can about it, my hosting server meets the specs. I was thinking that if I could get to the Admin section of drupal, I could modify the settings for clean urls. But, alas, I cannot since the point where the install stopped is where I am also to create the Admin User/Password.

I'm so close, and yet so far. Any advice?

Ask that mod_rewrite be enabled

Hi,

Talk to your web host and ask that mod_rewrite be enabled for your account. mod_rewrite is the module that implements clean urls, and if your web host is using Apache as the web server, it's a standard part of the server.

Mod rewrite...is enabled

Hi Beng... thanks for the reply.

I contacted my host (liquid web) and here was the reply:

"Your apache version is 2.0.63. mod_rewrite is on the servers by default.
Normally you control rewrites through .htaccess files"

According to the host, it has been enabled since before I started install. Yet the install remains stuck at Configure Site step (and Clean URLs says 'disabled' and 'enabled' is grayed out)

I tried to reinstall again from scratch, but still stuck at same point.

One thing to check ... is javascript enabled on your browser?

Second thing ... let's see if your web host's reply is correct.

Create a text file called info.php in your web space somewhere, which contains the following single line:

<?php phpinfo(); ?>

Then, visit that file from your web browser and check the PHP version and that mod_rewrite really is enabled. After you have the information you want, you probably want to delete info.php.

Thirdly, ProsePoint should have a file named .htaccess in the top level directory. Can you check this exists on your web space?

Diagnosing...

Thanks again for guidance, Beng...

Made info.php file: it showed PHP version PHP/5.2.5, and the Mod_rewrite was listed under a section called "loaded modules". I assume that means it's enabled.

I looked for .htaccess file - it is there.

Just for kicks in installed Drupal into a subfolder using fantastico (from Cpanel). It is working fine, and I can enable/disable clean urls from admin section. Not sure if that proves anything, but it seemed like a positive thing for me ;-)

Not sure what to do next to get prose point working

Your PHP version and mod_rewrite sound fine. This issue may need more detailed investigation.

Evidently there's something about your server setup that changes the situation for subfolders, maybe. Do you want to try installing ProsePoint into a subfolder then, and see if it can use clean urls that way?

Another thing to check ... do you know if your web server is using something called mod_security? That interferes with ProsePoint quite severely. You can check in the info.php file.

A more drastic action we can take is to disable the clean urls check, and then re-enable it after the installation (in case it's a false negative). I'd rather not do this yet though, because clean urls is actually needed in ProsePoint - it's not a requirement I added just for the fun of it :)
