Option to Disable Creation of a Channel Block

Hi,

This is an old issue that has reared its head again.  I have about 500 or so channels, with editions.  Unfortunately, the scenario ends up creating a block per channel on the blocks admin page, resulting in a large amount of blocks that are disabled.  Is there an option to disable the creation of these Channel blocks, if not is there a way to programatically remove these blocks.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
