pressflow
one change i would like to see, is moving from drupal core to pressflow core.
this change alone would allow for much more robust sites created with prosepoint. as well as give us the ability to split our database connections and easily put a cdn or proxy cache in front of the server.
the down side. this move would force the use of php5, which everyone should be using as support for php4 has been dropped by zend.
hum, if drupal 7 keeps at about the same pace it is, i do not see it coming out later this year, but about midway into next year. 3 months to go from alpha 3 to alpha 4 and not mach changing between them. also switching from drupal to pressflow is a lot less cumbersome then switching from drupal 6 to drupal 7.
pressflow passes all of the standard drupal unit testing. and is honestly what i prefer when setting up a large site. besides, I'm sure if the world bank thinks it is stable enough, it most likely is stable enough.
Hi,
Fair enough. I'll go have a look at Pressflow when I have time. Perhaps I could release an experimental version of ProsePoint which uses Pressflow.
> pressflow is a lot less cumbersome then switching from drupal 6 to drupal 7.
Perhaps, but ProsePoint needs to move to Drupal 7 eventually because I do not want to stray from Drupal. This is a more long term consideration than the Drupal 6 / Pressflow move.
Have you tried Pressflow with ProsePoint yourself, by chance? Any thoughts on how well it works and whether it's stable?
I have not yet tested it personally myself. however I just threw a test server up at http://dev.twistednodes.com
made most of the changes that you had made to drupal it's self [left some of the cosmetic changes of changing the word drupal to pressflow]
only issue that seems to be a is the css seems slightly off. the main content is pushing up above the search. but that could be because i have a long site name.
Hi,
Thanks. I will have to look into it sometime.
FYI, if you substitute ProsePoint's version of Drupal core with vanilla Drupal core, it will still work (the only changes are cosmetic). Hence, if Pressflow is fully compatible with Drupal 6, then you should also be able to substitute ProsePoint's version of Drupal core with Pressflow. Theoretically it's a straight drop-in ... which would agree with your statements mostly.

Hi,
This idea has merit (and it's not the first time I've heard the suggestion). However, I don't think this will happen anytime soon.
I haven't used Pressflow enough to be convinced it is ready for widespread deployment. Secondly, Drupal 7 should be coming out later this year and I'd rather aim towards moving ProsePoint over to that. I think Drupal 7 contains some (or many?) of the improvements that Pressflow makes over Drupal 6?
