Hi All,

I'm newbie here. We have selected Prosepoint as a tool to publish a small online news paper from India. We have installed  Prosepoint and playing around with it. We are happy all the features of Prosepoint and looks like its really cool.

However we have few questions on its use case particularly keeping in mind online news which is updated regularly (Every 30mins there can be new news item).  If this question is already asked and has been replied, pardon me for asking it again. I could not locate any related topics. Please point me to related topics.

The questions are -

1.  In general how do you intend to use Editions/Channels for a daily online news channel. Do we need to create editions at regular intervals and schedule it? I know we can schedule it on even hourly basis, but that means more work to be done by the editors.

2. Can we restrict number of stories (say 10) that will appear in the Edition and give a link say 'More Stories' which will take it to another page with all news items. (Just like we have 'Read More' for stories).

3. How to make old news available to the users? Is it like create a new channel called, say 'Old News' and add stories to it manually?

Appreaciate your replies on the above questions.

Regards,

Chandrahasa

Hi,

You only need to use editions if you want lots of control over the layout and which stories are assigned to show up. If you're happy with a flat chronological list, you can change your channel mode to use Story Listing instead of Scheduled Editions.

Another thing you could also do is use Channel Sub-blocks with your editions (if Composite Layout is enabled for that edition). Each Channel Sub-block can be configured to show a list of the most recent stories of its channel.

> 2. Can we restrict number of stories (say 10) that will appear in the Edition

Yes, by showing no more than 10 stories in the Headlines or Other Stories fields of your edition. If you use Channel Sub-blocks, you can configure the Channel Sub-block to limit the number of stories as well.

At the moment, that's not a feature that's available out of the box, but it's fairly straightforward (developers) to modify the edition node template (in the theme) to add a link to point to its channel's story listing page.

There are different ways to do it - it depends on which way you think is most suitable. Having a separate "Old News" channel is one way ... or you can just let your users dig deeper into your existing channels to find old stories.

Hey Beng, Thanks for the

Hey Beng,

Thanks for the quick reply. We do want to use Editions as we get more layout control rather than just story listing. Will look more into Channel Sub Blocks.

Thanks
