Control over list of galleries

Is there a way to control the display of the links to galleries on the image_gallery page? (In other words, the list of galleries above the grid of images.) Because we are a daily newspaper, the list of galleries has already become quite long in the nearly four months we have been using ProsePoint for our new website.
It would be nice to have a Views-related way for me to control the list of galleries ... to be able to include a pager, to list the galleries from most recent to oldest, etc.
Is there any simple way to do this?

No View for list of galleries
Resetting the taxonomy list for galleries to alphabetical helped with that problem ... but there is no View for the list of galleries; the only View is for the image gallery itself (how the images within galleries are displayed).
I ended up creating a workaround by building a new Views page that allows users to search the photos by gallery, photographer, caption, or title.
It's still aggravating, though, that there's no way for me to control the list of galleries on the main image_gallery page.

Have you tried rearranging the order of the terms by using either of the pages .../admin/content/image_gallery or .../admin/content/taxonomy?
If I remember correctly, the default image gallery function is also built from a View, so you could modify that, or even replace it with your own View.
